This has been a very exciting month for the Missouri Evans Scholars chapter. On Oct. 13, our chapter held its second annual Evans Scholars 5k at Stephens Lake Park.
We spent months preparing for the event, and we had an amazing turnout. All of our Scholars worked so hard to make this day happen. We divided the chapter up into philanthropy committees that each played a part in putting together the race. The committees ranged from sponsorship, to registration and many more. It was a great thing to see our chapter working so hard together to continue this philanthropy event.
We had 47 people who ran or donated to the event. It was a beautiful fall morning and we couldn't have asked for better weather. We also had several local businesses that sponsored us, so we were able to give out prizes to first through third place for both men and women. It was great to see so many people come out to support our philanthropy.
From the race, our chapter raised $687 that is being donated to the MU Children's Hospital. We participate in several other philanthropy events during the year such as volunteering at the food bank, Ronald McDonald House, and the Central Missouri Humane Society. All of those are great service opportunities, but we were so excited that we were able to successful hold a second 5k and raise money to donate to a great cause.
We couldn't have pulled it off without all of the generous sponsors and donors. We thank them all!
